Overlooking the Andaman Sea and set in a quiet bay of Cape Panwa in Phuket, the Amatara Wellness Resort is where the full works of this Thai hammam—a hybrid of Thai spa therapy and traditional bathing practices of Turkey and Morocco— can be experienced as part of its wellness stays available now.

Hammam in Phuket

Cascading mosaics. Gilded Turkish details. Clean-cut geometry. A little bit of Morocco has arrived on Thai shores in what’s being called the world’s first luxury Thai hammam.

A warm stone bed sets the stage for a full body black soap massage massage and exfoliation with a classic Hammam Kessa glove and Thai herbal body scrub. Completely covered in therapeutic mud next, a thermal mud bath with ghassoul—a mineral-rich clay from Morocco’s Atlas Mountains—and Hungarian Moor mud detoxifies the body with minerals readily absorbed by the skin to nip body aches and pains in the bud. A Himalayan salt room with negative ions released into its air promises to ‘wake up’ the respiratory system… and finally, another massage beckons: this time, it’s the resort’s signature Amatara massage.
