Phuket has three seasons; cool, hot and rainy, with the climate dictated by the monsoon winds. By and large, the weather in Phuket is predictable. The weather is warm all year round, but it is hottest from April to May and from September to October. The September-October period has the highest percentage of rainfall and thanks to the southwest monsoon that allows the cool breeze to sooth the heat of the island.

Since Phuket is on the Andaman Ocean side, the weather is mostly mild with a ver low tendency of typhoons and tropical storms. It's hardly to see several days of bad weather.

Since there is no one solution for all when it comes to a detox, the best method or intensity of our detox program is ideally decided on by considering our body type and health picture. Therefore, we offer three types of Detox Retreat Program: Amatara Detox Retreat, Amatara Body Detox Retreat, and Amatara Mind Detox Retreat.

The course of raw juice detox would work well for the overweight body type.  Whereas, the wholefood-based detox diet is a better choice for a leaner person. Anyone on a detox program will be assessed and guided in a way that suits them as an individual. You are welcomed to ask for more information about our wellness retreat programs by email to

Preparation is most important to a successful detox experience with minimal discomfort. What you eat before and after detox will influence the detox results and the long-term benefits.

The best way to prepare is to avoid the following for at least 7 days before your detox: All forms of caffeine; tea, coffee, cola drinks, chocolate, white sugar and foods containing sugar, refined carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta, biscuits, cakes, pastries, noodles, fried foods, red meat, dairy products, alcohol, processed or packaged foods (anything in a jar, packet, box, can, etc.)

To do before entering the detox process, you should include plant-based foods in your menu, eat light soups, salads, non-dairy smoothies, gluten-free grains, legumes, raw nuts and seeds, fishes, organic eggs.

Cleansing reactions are regularly found variedly depending on how stressful your life is and the level of consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods. You may experience some cleansing reactions once you begin your Pre-Detox. Common cleansing reactions include headaches, nausea, insomnia, foggy thinking, skin irritations, and fatigue.

By following the pre-detox guidelines, the body can focus on increasing the functioning of the main detoxification pathways (kidneys, liver, and intestine), which is essential to maximizing the effectiveness of your detox program.

We can also consider the mind, one of the most excellent sources of toxicity. Meditation is one of the best options to do when detox. It uses positive affirmations and helps to reduce negative thought patterns, and stress caused a kind of mental ‘pollution’ that is ultimately harmful to our body and soul.

It’s also really beneficial to do a media detox avoid any violent or harmful media, social media, and other kinds of screen time. Then, we can genuinely de-cutter in all respects.

There are some stages of life in which a colonic hydrotherapy detox is not suitable. These include:

  • pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • those with advanced heart, liver or kidney diseases
  • any unstable health condition such as diabetes that isn’t well controlled
  • anyone who is currently or has recently suffered from acute illness, such as flu, fever, or viral infection
  • those experiencing excessive fatigue or malaise (such as chronic fatigue or burnout)

Therefore, for these cases, it’s best to ‘detox’ by eating a very healthy, wholefood diet that contains abundant plant- based food, complex carbohydrates, quality proteins, and ‘good’ fats, while avoiding process foods without nutritional benefit, and using other toxin-releasing treatments and activities to stimulate your detox process.

The hammam is the steam bath rituals rooted from Middle Eastern culture. It involves numerous steps, and it aims at cleansing and relaxing. While the Turkish or Moroccan style of hammam is pretty refreshing, the Thai hammam, which is firstly created at Amatara Wellness Resort, offers the gentler version. Our team of well-experienced spa therapists combines Thai herbal and Thai ancient massage techniques. This Thai hammam is unique like no one else does. We use a combination of locally made, signature products from Thailand, and specific Hammam treatment products from Morocco. All products used are 100% natural.

The duration of treatment depends on how you take it. There are two options: a treatment on its own for 1 hour 45 minutes or with a Signature of Amatara massage to follow for total of 2 hours 45 minutes. The oil massage is the perfect way to end the Hammam session.

There are plentiful benefits of hammam treatment. Here we provide you with key benefits.

  1. Sauna helps to promote longevity. From the Finnish study, Sauna helps to reduce cardiovascular mortality significantly if you regularly sauna.
  2. The steam in the steam room raises the body temperature above average, this stimulates the immune system to increase the production of antibodies and interferon. Plus, the hot steam has a soothing and all-round relaxing effect on body muscle tension and pain as well as the mind
  3. Heat from sauna and steam room helps to dilate the blood vessels which immediately improves the circulation, producing a positive tonic effect. In addition to that, the heat also opens the pores in the skin making possible deep cleansing of the skin via sweating.
  4. Hot and cold contrast is beneficial for circulatory and lymph systems. The lymph system, unlike the circulatory system, lacks a central pump. By alternating hot and cold temperatures, lymph vessels dilate and contract to principally ‘pump’ and move stagnant fluid out of the area. This process positively affects the inflammation process, which is the body’s primary mechanism for healing damaged tissue.
  5. The mud has a significant benefit on the skin. Our muds are rich in essential minerals, and trace elements to deep cleanse as it refines, softens and revitalizes dull skin.
  6. The salt room helps to improve the lungs’ health. Salt releases the negative ions that has the anti-inflammatory particles. This promote the improvement of the immune system.

Hammam treatment is great. However, it may not be the best choice of treatment for everyone. You should avoid if you are:

  • Elderly and people who have cardiac risk
  • People who has uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • People who is sensitive to high heat (fainting or skin irritation)
  • People who has skin infection, broken skin, severe sunburn, and wounds
  • Women who are in the menstruation period
